Description:Piano Recital by ROY HOWAT, internationally renowned interpreter of French Music Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m., Grant Recital Hall, Brown University, Providence. Free. Program Nocturne no. 6, op. 63, Fauré Nocturne in E, op. 62 no. 2; Waltz in A-flat, op. 42, Chopin Mélancolie; Idylle (from Pièces pittoresques), Chabrier D'un cahier d'esquisses; L'isle joyeuse, Debussy Preludes Book 2 (complete), Debussy Roy will also conduct a master class at Grant Recital Hall on Friday, Feb. 24, starting at 4 p.m. Free and open to the public. ROY HOWAT is internationally renowned as pianist, scholar and music editor. A graduate of King's College, Cambridge, he has made a special study of French music. He lectures and gives masterclasses worldwide at venues including the USA's Juilliard and Eastman Schools, and is one of few British artists invited to teach and play French music at major French-speaking Conservatoires and on French radio. As a music editor, Roy Howat knows much of his concert repertoire from original manuscripts of composers. He is one of the founding editors, with Pierre Boulez and others, of the Paris-based Complete Debussy Edition (Œuvres Complètes de Claude Debussy), for which he edited much of the piano music. Among his other editions are Urtext volumes of Fauré (Peters Edition) and Chabrier (Dover Edition). He has recorded extensively, including all of Debussy's piano music, as well as much of the piano music of Chabrier and Fauré. Roy Howat's recent book, The Art of French Piano Music, was chosen as 2009 Book of the Year by International Piano, and has earned citations including 'Outstanding' in International Record Review and 'Editor's Choice' in Classical Music.
