Description:Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra to perform Fauré Requiem and world premiere of Vrebalov’s Stations On March 31, The Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra will present the world premiere of Aleksandra Vrebalov’s Stations and the beautiful and contemplative Requiem of Gabriel Fauré. The concert begins at 8:00 PM and the venue is the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Academy Avenue at 239 Regent Avenue, Providence. Soloists are Jean Danton, Soprano and René de la Garza, Baritone, both long-time favorites of Chorale audiences. As part of the celebration of its 50th Anniversary Season, the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra commissioned a major work for chorus and orchestra by renowned composer Aleksandra Vrebalov. The work is entitled Stations. Two years ago, she and Michael John Garces, one of the New Dramatists’ resident writers, had written a short work, Canta Claro, which won the Friends and Enemies of New Music 2004 Award. This commission is their second collaboration. The composer has described her work as “a sequence of interwoven events related to each other through contrast, tension, emptiness, color, and light.” Now commencing its 50th season, the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra is a musical organization comprised of singers from throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts. Music Director, Edward Markward has led the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra for 20 years and is one of Rhode Island’s musical treasures. Together, their mission is to provide artistic enrichment to the public through presentation of concerts of major choral works each year.
